Our Council Executive Board voted and finalized our legislative priorities for the 2022-23 school year on January 30, 2023. Our Council of PTAs establishes legislative priorities to advance our advocacy in impacting change on issues that affect students and public education. This is done through our collective voice of members, and ensures that we are heard at both a district and state level. The priorities are established annually based on the current state of Leander ISD, and in support of priorities established by Texas PTA.
Focus on teacher retention and increase salaries.
Support additional funding for fast growth school districts.
Transition school funding from an attendance-based system to an enrollment-based system.
Support a Special Education allotment to fully fund each child based system upon their individual needs and circumstances.
Establish guidelines to provide adequate time during the school day for students to eat and recreate:
Mandate two recesses
Support fully funding a school meal plan
Support mental health for students across all grade levels.
Support procedures for better school security.
Support flavor ban on vaping products.
